Mobil Jet Oil 387: Japan Airlines and ExxonMobil partnership

As ExxonMobil’s most advanced turbine oil ever developed, Mobil Jet™ Oil 387 meets the evolving needs of customers and the industry, as the latest advanced synthetic High-Performance Capability turbine engine oil. Mobil Jet Oil 387 underwent over 10 years of extensive research, development and rigorous testing in order to turn it into the high performing product it is today.

The Jet Oil not only provides optimal engine performance but also advanced protection for engines, thus striking the perfect balance. This continued determination to meet industry requirements and surpass competitor offerings have contributed to the successful partnership between ExxonMobil and Japan Airlines (JAL) that has now stood for over 50 years.

The origins of the partnership first date back to the early 1960s when Japan Airlines started using Mobil Jet™ Oil II, a high-performance aircraft-type gas turbine lubricant that it still uses today. The relationship has gone from strength to strength during the 50 years, with Japan Airlines also opting to use Mobilgrease 33™ and Exxon HyJet™ hydraulic fluids.

The shared forward-looking philosophy between ExxonMobil and Japan Airlines was a core factor in JAL becoming the first major airline to conduct a service evaluation for Mobil Jet™ Oil 387. Exceeding the product expectations of JAL, the General Manager of the Engine Maintenance Center at Japan Airlines, Hiroki Haraikawa proclaimed ExxonMobil’s advanced aviation lubricant technologies to be “setting the industry standard” and commented on the exceptional deposit control, seal compatibility and wear protection provided by the Jet Oil.

These rewards are reaped through using Mobil Jet Oil 387, and also make running a fleet more economical for JAL, due to cost savings on maintenance repair, overhaul and more infrequent engine servicing.

Japan Airlines prides itself on punctuality and thus is aware of the need to have a robust fleet operating at maximum efficiency. Through the historic use of Jet Oil II, as it has done for the last 50 years, and more recently using Jet Oil 387, JAL was named the world’s best airline for its on-time performance service.
